Now for something a little different! The Lego Exo Suit is a fan-build that Lego have turned into an actual product. If you enjoyed Lego Space in the late 70s / early 80s, this kit is for you!
The box is sturdy and big enough to spread all the bits for safe building. The manual is a good quality book.
Inside you get the story of the designer and how the model came about.
The pictures are great!
Now onto the build. You get two classic-looking space figures in green, one male, one female. Doesn’t that space logo bring back the memories?
First you build the “turtle”, which remind me of the Tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell.
You get this great little base with yellow barrels. Then you build the Exo Suit itself.
You start with the chest section of the Exo Suit.
Clear yellow and grey!
The feet are very detailed.
The legs are very complex with lots of added detail parts to give the feel of hydraulics.
Legs nearly done and attached.
Arms done. Interesting use of barrels!
The build took about 45 minutes.
The claw hands are great!
There were a few parts left over. I like how they included a nice part separator.
What a great Lego kit.
Awesome, remember those old sets well. Now I want this Exo!!!!
I still have an old Lego space (http://brickset.com/sets/6953-1/Cosmic-Laser-Launcher) all built up and displayed. The uniform really does bring back memories
I still have most, if not all my Lego from when I was young and a lot of the instruction booklets too, but not in the best of shape. I don’t have any of the old space sets built up though. My girls recently built up some creations of their own and did well winning the local library’s Lego competition.
I’m surprised Lego has not re-released classic Lego space sets from the 70s: http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Space/year-1978 – can you just imagine how well 487 Space Cruiser http://brickset.com/sets/487-1/Space-Cruiser or 497 Galaxy Explorer http://brickset.com/sets/497-1/Galaxy-Explorer would sell? Or kits like http://brickset.com/sets/497-1/Galaxy-Explorer, or http://brickset.com/sets/6990-1/Monorail-Transport-System from the 80s?
