I was waiting on building this until the custom set arrived from GGInfinite. I actually ended up building the custom set parts first, before I went onto the main model!
Our local dollar store has a good selection of button cells!
And the small unit lights up nicely. It’s much better than some of the pieces you get to build in the perfect grade kits!
I used the Alclad grey primer. I really like this primer, and it also works well as grey paint.
The darker sections are Tamiya gunmetal. The white barrel is Createx white, thinned right down with Future Finish and sprayed on really gently at low pressure and a couple of good coats.
The red pieces at the back are Createx peal red, with Tamiya clear red on top, coated with Future Finish before I did the black oil wash for the details.
I started on the main model with the dark grey pieces. I wanted to try a new idea which was to use a white oil paint wash to get an inverse effect to bring out the details, similar to how some of the Bandai special titanium finish kits look on their darker pieces. The main paint is Tamiya gunmetal with Tamiya smoke over the top.
Here you can see me in the process of adding the white oil paint to various sections. The red feet parts are Createx pearl red with Tamiya clear red over the top. I Future Finished then used my black oil wash on the base and the white oil was on the upper parts. Later I enhanced the details on the soles with Tamiya smoke, painting it by hand.
The inner frame is Vallejo air aluminium. I then went and added details by hand with Tamiya smoke. The yellow sections are Createx pearl yellow, followed by Tamiya clear yellow and a light coat of Tamiya clear orange to achieve the shade I was after.
I used the gold Gundam marker either directly, or via my fine brush to add details.
Here you can get a better look at how the white oil wash worked on the blue pieces. The metallic blue is just Createx pearl blue, top coated with Future Finish.
The pale blue sections are Createx pearl blue with a thin coat of Createx pearl white on top.
The backpack came out great with the white wash effect. I did darken some of the areas with some extra Tamiya smoke.
More white wash really brings out the lines on the blue.
The yellow pieces have a black oil wash, and some hand painted Tamiya smoke details.
The internal parts of the feet are mostly Vallejo aluminium, although the front part is grey undercoat with a layer of Tamiya smoke on top. I used the undercoat+smoke for all the “dark grey” pieces on the kit.
Here’s more of the internal skeleton – I like the small gold details I added.
This is shaping up nicely. Love the ally frame, and the white reverse wash appears to work really well on the black.
The Bazooka looks awesome.
I was so happy with how clean the bazooka came out. Now I’ve got to do the 2nd one.
